Cool weather, warm lunches!

Leaves are falling and cool autumn weather is moving in. It's the time of year where I try to ditch the salads and cold, crunchy foods in my kids lunches. I started doing this a couple years ago after Ayurveda (yoga's sister science related to health and wellness) inspired me to eat seasonally, both for my digestion and connection to nature. In Ayurveda, the digestive fire is weaker in cold weather so eating warm, cooked meals that are easier to digest can be more nourishing to the body. This lines up perfectly well with our intuitive sense (who doesn't love a warm cup of soup on a cold day?), as well as the idea that cooking and warming essentially helps to pre-digest the food making it easier to assimilate in the body. So, in practicality, what does this mean for kids and adults who need a quick, easy and fast lunch during the school or work day? As soon as the cool weather blew in this year, I got the thermoses off the shelf and came up with some easy hot meals that I could put in mine and my kids lunches! I am always careful to put the food in hot so that it stays very warm until lunch time so that we don't have any contamination/food safety issues! Since I am doing Carnivore diet right now, this basically means some ground meat and broth in a thermos, but with the kids, adding is some sauteed veggies and a pasture-raised or grass fed meat source with salt is a great school lunch. I posted the lunch that I packed today in the recipe section here. What school lunch ideas do you have for chilly weather?
