Slow Cooked Chicken Gizzards

Before you see the word "gizzards" and pass this recipe by, give slow cooking in the oven a try....goodbye rubbery texture, hello tenderness with a little bit crispy from cooking in the oven!  Gizzards are nutritional powerhouses so give this one a try - you might be surprised!  One of my kids even said, "it tastes like chicken!"

Ingredients

  • Package of pasture raised chicken gizzards (I purchase mine at US Wellness Meats)

  • Broth to fill bottom of pan (choose a rich meat broth with lots of flavor)

  • Salt to taste

  • Herbs to garnish

Step 1

Heat oven to 200 degrees.

Step 2

Lay gizzards flat in a deep glass pan and pour broth over gizzards so that broth covers about half the depth of the gizzards.

Step 3

Bake for several hours and then turn temperature up to 400 degrees for the last 20 minutes.  Garnish with any herbs, either before or after taking out of the oven (depending on whether you want the herbs to be cooked).  Enjoy!
